Details

Chan Chee first came to the BSIP in 1928 and was employed by Lever Brothers at Gavutu until 1935, when he returned to Hong Kong. He returned to the Solomon Islands the next year, and at the time of the Japanese invasion was evacuated to Makira, along with other Chinese, and later worked for the American Army. He joined Kwan How Yuan Ltd. in 1951 and was General Manager at the time he retired to Hong Kong in 1962. He was President of the Chinese Community in Honiara in the years before a formal BSIP Chinese Association was formed in 1964. (NS Feb. 1962)
