The University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Centre was operating in 1974. It moved into its premises near Chinatown in 1976. The Centre taught Introductory and Foundation courses and in 1977 one course within a B.A. degree. Correspondence materials were used, along with satellite tutorials linked to teachers in Fiji.
