Details

Arisimae (often written as Harisimai) was a late-nineteenth-century ramo (warrior and bounty-hunter) in 'Are'are, Malaita, said to have killed sixty-five men and women for bounties. He travelled as far as Makira in his quests. (Eyerdam 1933) From the late 1920s he served as District Headman at Wairokai Harbour in west 'Are'are, until in 1934 he was replaced by his nephew Houasihau. Both Arisimae and Houasihau were key participants in starting the Maasina Rule (q.v.) movement in the mid-1940s (AR 1934; David Akin, personal communication, 22 Sept. 2012)
