Biographical entry: Kevu, Jack

Details

Jack Kevu was probably the first Solomon Islander to be on television when he travelled to New York to appear on the Jack Parr Show in September 1962. He had been the leader of a band of scouts who found Lt. John F. Kennedy and his crew shipwrecked on a small island in the Western Solomons during the war and helped in their rescue. During his visit he met President Kennedy and the Australian Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies. (NS 15 Oct. 1962)
