Simon Siapu was born in 1921 at Santa Ana in the Eastern District, and joined the Police Force in 1948. He attended a training course at Hendon in England, and served in the Western District early in his career. He was placed in command of the Eastern Police Division, based at Kirakira, and in August 1965 he was appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Police, the first Solomon Islander to achieve this rank.
