Norman C. Deck, born in 1882, was younger brother of John Northcote Deck (q.v.) and nephew of Florence Young (q.v.), the founder of the Queensland Kanaka Mission (q.v.) and the South Sea Evangelical Mission (SSEM) (q.v.). He was a Sydney dentist when he first came to the Protectorate in 1913 as missionary-dentist for SSEM staff and adherents. He then became a missionary himself and remained on Malaita for thirty years, retiring in the late 1940s. He returned in mid-1964 for a two-month visit. (NS 31 July 1964; Braga 2003)
