Gordon Siama was born on Choiseul Island on 21 December 1937. He was educated at Sasamungga School (1954-1956), Goldie College (1957-1959), and Methodist Theological College at Auckland, New Zealand (1963). He also attended Boys Brigade and Youth Training Courses in New Zealand in 1963 and 1966. Siama was a teacher at Sasamungga School (1960-1962) and then was appointed as Boys Brigade Organiser for the Western Solomons and Bougainville. In 1967, he was elected to the Legislative Council (q.v.) as the member for North Western Solomons (Choiseul, Vella Lavella and Shortland Islands), and in 1970 took the same position in the new Governing Council (q.v.). In 1969 he married Mevily Sai from Simbo. (NS 7 July 1967, 15 June 1970)
