Paul Marita was the first Christian on Ulawa. The Melanesian Mission (q.v.) took him away to schools at Norfolk Island and at Siota (q.v.) on Nggela. He was ordained in 1921 and took charge of the Makira church in the 1920s. He died at All Hallows' School at Pawa (q.v.) on Ugi in 1931. Charles Fox (q.v.) described him as 'a beautiful Christian character, selfless, humble and faithful'. (1958, 161)
